Adopt-a-Tree
Keep Midway Cool!

Have you noticed that each passing summer is hotter and that both we and our shade trees suffer during long heat spells? This is an issue that you can help with! If you want the Hamline Midway neighborhood to have astrong, healthy shade trees that will keep our neighborhood cooler, then sign-up to Adopt A Tree!
You water your adopted public tree weekly when the soil gets dry and in exchange, our community business partners will provide you with a free beverage!
Why Adopt-a-Tree is needed
To combat the effects of climate change in our neighborhood, the HMC Environment Committee is starting a local Adopt-a-Tree Program to support newly planted trees in public spaces like boulevards and schoolyards. Trees really benefit from regular watering in the first few years after planting. Without this watering, replacement plantings from those removed from Emerald Ash Borer infestations won’t get established, and Midway’s canopy will not recover.
How it works
Volunteers in eligible areas can sign up to take care of trees during the summer/dry periods. This involves either watering the tree, making sure that they receive 5-10 gallons of water a week, or checking in to ensure that their gator bag is full each week. Volunteers who adopt a tree, will be compensated via a voucher to a local brewery or coffee shop. We will send out reminders so you know when your tree needs water.
