Community Canopy Care
Support for Planting, Maintaining, and Protecting Midway’s Urban Forest
The Hamline Midway Coalition and its Environment Committee (HMEC) are deeply committed to growing and protecting our community’s tree canopy — because a healthy, thriving canopy is one of the best ways we can care for each other, especially as we face the challenges of a changing climate.
That’s why HMEC is working to build a Community Canopy Care program that goes beyond simply planting trees. This initiative aims to provide free shade trees, help with the removal of dead or dying trees, support pruning and maintenance, and offer tree care education to empower neighbors with the knowledge and tools to steward our urban forest. Together, we can grow a greener, cooler, and more resilient Midway for generations to come.
Trees offer environmental, economic, and mental health benefits. Planting trees can:
💸Save you money on utility bills
🏠Shade and cool your property
🌳Connect us to our neighborhood roots
🌧Collect stormwater runoff
🐦Provide habitat for wildlife and pollinators
✅Improve our health and well-being
💹Increase property values
