Join the HMC Development or Transportation Committee

Posted on January 12, 2015 - 12:58pm

We are looking for new members for our Development and Transportation Committees. Sitting on a Hamline Midway Coalition committee is the best way to get involved in the behind-the-scenes planning and infrastructure development that shapes our neighborhood, while connecting with new neighbors and benefiting our community.

The Development Committee develops initiatives to build the local economy and improve infrastructure, amenities, and services in the Hamline Midway neighborhood. The committee works with HMC staff to review land use applications—for licenses, variances, conditional use permits, re-zonings, etc. It serves an important advisory role in making recommendations for action regarding such requests to the HMC Board of Directors and City of Saint Paul. As a member of the Development Committee, you will not only be among the first to know about major developments coming to the neighborhood, but will often have opportunity to shape some developments by consulting with developers and city officials. Development Committee meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:30pm on the ground floor of the Hamline Midway Library. Those interested in joining should contact HMC Executive Director Michael Jon Olson at michaeljon[at]hamlinemidway[dot]org or 651-494-7682.

The Transportation Committee addresses transportation issues in the Hamline Midway neighborhood. Whether you get around the neighborhood on foot, bike, bus, rollerblades, or car, transportation affects us all on a daily basis. The committee works with HMC staff to review and inform transportation infrastructure decisions on projects in the neighborhood, initiate educational and outreach projects and many other transportation-related activities. If you are passionate about transportation, this is the committee for you. Recent and upcoming projects the Transportation Committee has worked on include the Snelling 2015 reconstruction, Snelling Bus Rapid Transit, the Charles Ave. Bikeway, and continuing to work with and support the Friendly Streets Initiative, which started in the committee and has since grown into a citywide effort. The Transportation Committee meets monthly, and will determine a regular meeting time at it’s next meeting Monday, January 12 at the Hamline Midway Library, 1558 W Minnehaha Ave at 7pm. If you’re interested in joining the Transportation Committee please contact Kyle Mianulli at kyle[at]hamlinemidway[dot]org or 651-494-7683.
