Midway Murals Project Ready to Transform Snelling Ave

Posted on January 12, 2015 - 12:34pm

The Midway Murals Project is kicking-off with a celebratory event at the Turf Club, Friday, February 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event will launch a series of listening sessions and community engagement processes that will lead to four beautiful murals along Snelling Avenue in the Hamline Midway neighborhood. Come learn more about the project, share your stories and input, and support the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign set to launch on Feb. 16. This event is free, open to all, and family-friendly. There will be a silent auction with original artwork by the muralists and live music provided by Superbrush 427, from 4-6pm. Video and speakers, 6:15-7pm. Stay after and get your dance on at the Filthy Animals album release show ($5 in advance, 21+).

A Knight Arts Challenge winner, The Midway Murals project will transform a half-mile stretch of Snelling Avenue during the summer of 2015 by commissioning four experienced public artists to collaborate with immigrant business owners and the Hamline Midway community at large to create four murals around the theme “starting anew.”

This an ambitious project and organizers are looking for volunteers and supporters interested in getting involved in the effort.
